What is space tourism?

Space tourism is a human space journey for recreational purposes. There are several different types of space tourism including

  • orbital
  • suborbital
  • lunar space tourism
On a date, orbital space tourism should be performed just by the Russian Space Agency. The flight of the world’s first space tourist, American businessman Dennis Tito, on April 28, 2001, space tourism has gained new prominence as more suborbital and orbital tourism opportunities have become available.

Now we discuss the type of tourism

  • orbital tourism
An orbital spaceflight (or orbital flight) is a spaceflight in which a spacecraft remains lodged on a trajectory where it could reside in space for at least one orbit. Orbital speed is slower for higher orbits, but attaining them requires a vaster delta-v.

  • Suborbital tourism

As of 2020, Space Adventures is the only company coordinating tourism flights to Earth's orbit. The Virginia-based company has worked with Russia to use its Soyuz spacecraft to fly ultra-wealthy individuals to the International Space Station. The tourists included entrepreneur and space investor Anousheh Ansari and Cirque du Soleil co-founder Guy Laliberté. Those missions signified priced at around $20 million each. The space industry could soon be headed for a tourism revolution if SpaceX and Boeing make suitable plans to take tourists to orbit.

  • lunar space tourism

Lunar tourism may be possible if trips to the Moon are made available to a private audience. Some space tourism startup companies plan to offer tours on or around the Moon and estimate this to be possible sometime between 2023 and 2043. Tourist flights would be of three types: flyby in a circumlunar trajectory, lunar orbit, and lunar landing.
